KING FILES TO RUN FOR CONGRESS

Libertarian Seeks to Oust Chip Roy in Texas 21st District Contest

[New Braunfels, Texas, December 12, 2023] – Bob King (L-New Braunfels) has filed with the Texas Secretary of State to run as a Libertarian for the US House of Representatives in the Texas 21st congressional district.

“Excessively partisan Republicans and Democrats have for years fueled a culture war that has divided Americans so bitterly that old friendships have ruptured and some families can hardly sit together for Thanksgiving,” said King in explaining his rationale for seeking office as a Libertarian. “Chip Roy personifies the dysfunction. The never-ending partisan battles for power have hidden the fact that government at all levels, and especially the federal government, has grown beyond all reason in its power to control us. They don’t agree with each other on how to use this massive government, but they both seek it for their own control and financial well-being.

“Annual federal spending is running far ahead of revenues, and politicians are adding more than $1 trillion a year to the mushrooming $34 trillion debt load,” King continued. “Neither major party has the moral courage to address this. Libertarians understand that without major philosophical changes in Washington, our financial future is bleaker than anyone in charge will admit. We need to do things fundamentally differently if we want results to change.”

Practical, workable ideas that the King campaign plans to advocate include:

  1. Take the federal government out of the wealth redistribution racket by giving taxpayers credits (rather than deductions) against federal income taxes above certain levels for contributions to safety net charitable organizations.

  2. Break up the massive and entrenched DC bureaucracy by eliminating several federal departments, slashing spending in others, and relocating most of them away from Washington in a competitive process among relevant cities across the country.

  3. Bring home our forward-deployed US Army units and change their mission to a defensive one, versus continuing to subsidize the defense of other nations, instigating regime change wars, and asking the Army to occupy foreign lands.

  4. End the counterproductive drug wars that have failed since the Nixon Administration to reduce the addiction problem, and that have instead created – just as during Prohibition – a massively profitable landscape for violent criminal enterprise.

  5. Propose a “Right to Privacy” amendment to the US Constitution that keeps government out of our bedrooms, limits its ability to interfere in procreation decisions, and gives parents primacy in educational and healthcare decisions affecting their minor children.

Bob King is a retired nonprofit leader and energy financial executive.  A native Texan with economics and finance degrees from Southern Methodist University, King was born in Dallas, worked the majority of his career in Houston, and in 2012 moved to his current home in New Braunfels. He is married, has two adult sons, and is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in New Braunfels.

The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States. It promotes civil liberties, free market capitalism, non-interventionism, and reducing the size and scope of government.
